Jayni and Kenny live with their mum and dad. Their dad is an alcoholic. Then one day Jayni's mum wins $20,000 in lotto. She decides to keep it a secret from her husband because he will spend it all at the pub. But when things get out of hand and Jayni's dad hit her the mum and two kids have to escape in the dark of the night all the way to London. With only an old hotel to live in, mother has no job,and the family are going broke quickly, how will they survive?......
My favourite passage was when Aunty Barbara says: ''Now calm down. I'm going to help.''
I like this part because it was lovely that her aunty would do something like that for her since they haven't seen each other in years. I personally connected to this part because my aunties look after me too.
My favourite part was when Jayni called Aunty Barbara to see if she could give them a bit of money to keep them going, but the aunty turned up with heaps more. I like this part because it was touching that her Auntie would do that for her and that she could finally get to see her.
Three things I liked about LOLA ROSE are ...
1. I liked it when Jayni stood by the shark tank for an hour, even though she hates them so much. I liked this part because she did it for her mum who was critically ill.
2. I liked it how Jayni's Principal looked after her in the park when she was getting bullied. I like that because it's nice how her Principal would look after her like that.
3.I can't type this one in because it will give away the ending!, so let's just say, I liked the ending!
So overall Lola Rose is a very good book. You can't get your nose out of it. It's written by a wonderful author, Jacqueline Wilson and illustrated by an outstanding illustrator, Nick Sharrat.
I rate this exciting book:9/10, from years 7 to 9 and people who can cope with sad situations. (but definately for year seven and higher)
